The paragraph above that begins with: "MASONRY SKILLS..." describes this book quite well. What is left out in this description is the author's attention to detail with every subject of the book. You can tell that the guy has a great deal of experience with the topic at hand. I like how he describes the pro & cons of doing something one way verses another. And everything is how its done in the U.S., not over in England like much of the internet content you see out there. The author spends a good part of the book going over the basics of masonry work. Safety, types of tools used, types of brick/block, preparing mortar, laying brick techniques, and even how to read a ruler. He tackles one subject at a time and goes into great - but necessary - detail.Throughout the book you find many awesome diagrams and not-so awesome black and white photos depicting the subject matter. There are some color photos in the book, but mostly the black and white stuff with the author ever so present. You'll also find several data sheets provided by manufactures describing their products, Question sections on the material covered in each chapter, and "Going Green" paragraphs littered throughout the text. The Going Green sections are very nice because they marry the old school masonry with the new school. This is one feature I love about the book.I think the author goes overboard with his detail on the topics of Scaffolding and Chimney construction. But to each their own.In parting, I like to say that there is a wealth of information in this book and I know I'm leaving out some big topics that are covered - like glass block masonry and the construction of arches.
